The Parish of the Nativity of the Lord

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)

This programme is widely used in many parishes throughout the Diocese. RCIA is both a learning and teaching programme that aims to help those who would like to know more about the Christian faith from a catholic perspective and might be thinking about becoming a Catholic. To be a full member of the Catholic Church you need to complete the process of Christian Initiation which is when you have bee Baptised, Confirmed and made your First Holy Communion.

The RCIA Programme in the Parish of the Nativity of the Lord began in the autumn. There is a small group of catechists along with members of the clergy team who present the course through weekly sessions. We currently meet on a Tuesday evening in St Joseph’s Church from 8 – 9.30pm. The meetings are relaxed and informal. There is normally a presentation on some aspect of the Catholic Faith by a member of the Team. This is followed by coffee and a Question and Answer session concluding with a time of prayer.

If you are not a Catholic, but regularly come to Sunday Mass or have often thought about whether God might be calling you to become a Catholic, why not get in touch with the Clergy Team for an informal chat.

Thought for the week

In the second reading of this Sunday, St John writes of the Christian vocation: “Loved by the Father, called to be God’s children living lives that will take us to see Him”. John invites us to think about the wonder of this calling, this journey, to think about the love that God bestows upon us. It is our life’s work to grow in our understanding and true appreciation of the depth and wonder of this gift. It is from this baptismal calling – for this journey begins there – that our very lives flow. This is the starting point for vocation, for discipleship
